As early as his second year in law school, Tom was intent on his post-graduate practice to be Labor and Employment Disputes, representing management in such disputes. Under Professor Charlie Morris, a well-known labor lawyer for unions, Professor Morris took Tom under his wing and worked with him for the balance of his law school career. He took every labor course offered by SMU Law School. His first position after law school was with a firm with an excellent, established reputation in his area of choosing. He devoted much of his time to the labor practice for the first nine-years of practice, then changed firms to become a partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP in 1982, where he remained for 35 years before retirement to become a full-time arbitration and mediation attorney. Tom has worked a variety of disputes between labor and management before the NLRB, the EEOC and OSHA, and participated in collection bargaining sessions between labor and management.
